MP2 Energy and Harvest Moon Launch New Community Solar Farm

Local farm-to-market solar electricity option allows Houston residents to go solar without purchasing rooftop solar panels

HOUSTON (Feb. 8, 2016) – Houston-based companies MP2 Energy LLC and Harvest Moon Renewable Energy Company have partnered to offer farm-to-market solar electricity to Houston-area residents. The partnership will provide residential customers with offsite, locally sourced solar power, delivered hassle-free when they sign up for a five-year term that guarantees record-low, long-term energy price certainty. MP2 Energy’s Farm-to-Market Solar Energy with Harvest Moon Program retail supply rate comes as a result of the companies’ efforts to make solar energy more accessible, affordable and to help lock low-priced energy prices long term for Houston-area residents.

MP2 Energy will purchase solar output from Harvest Moon’s solar “farm” in Sealy, Texas, roughly 50 miles outside of Houston, to serve a portion of customers’ electricity needs. When the sun isn’t shining, MP2 Energy will buy 100 percent renewable energy from other Texas projects, as well as renewable energy certificates (RECs), for all of the electricity that can’t be supplied from Harvest Moon.

“We want to make solar electricity a practical option for all residential customers in Texas,” said Jeff Starcher, Chairman and CEO of MP2 Energy. “With power prices at record lows, our partnership with Harvest Moon has allowed us to do just that for Houston residents.”

Harvest Moon’s 1.5 megawatt solar farm is located on 12 acres of land on FM Road 3013 in Sealy, Texas. The plant took 120 days to construct, with crews installing more than 1,000 steel posts to support more than 15,000 solar panels. Harvest Moon’s solar farm is currently designed to serve both single-family homes and multi-family residences in the greater Houston area. Each year, the plant will produce more than 2,500,000 kWh.

“MP2 Energy shares both our passion for innovation and our desire to make renewable power more accessible and affordable in our local community,” said Joey Romano, president of Harvest Moon. “Together, we recognized a unique opportunity to provide Houstonians with the benefits of solar power without the burden of onsite panel installation and a 20-year lease.”

Customers who sign up for MP2 Energy’s Farm-to-Market Solar Energy with the Harvest Moon Program’s retail supply rate will have an opportunity to tour the farm personally if they so desire.

The Sealy, Texas farm features First Solar panels and SMA America inverters; and construction efforts were led by Ameresco.
