Execution matters. Doing the right thing – well, is centric to how founder Jeff Starcher approaches MP2's business. Failing to deliver doesn't have a home at MP2.
With 27 years in the independent power industry, Jeff has enjoyed a lifetime of experiences in the areas of power project development, structured energy transactions, project and structured finance, IPOs, start-ups, deregulated market construct, demand side management, power plant operations, asset management, origination, risk management, retail energy, SEC reporting and accounting.
Prior to MP2, he was senior vice president at Lehman Brothers, where he originated many of Lehman’s ERCOT asset management transactions. Prior to Lehman he was a principal and founder of MPower Energy, (acquired by Eagle Energy Partners / Champion Energy Services in 2006). MPower was a true pioneer in the deregulated energy market and grew to be the largest independent non-utility-affiliated retail electric provider in the United States, with more than 800 MW of peak load. Similar to MP2, Mpower was a Level IV QSE, and incorporated asset management as a service for power plant owners and a natural hedge against retail volatility. The experience Jeff gained with MPower has been key to the present day success of MP2.
Prior to founding MPower, Jeff spent two years in Austin representing Dynegy's commercial interests in the drafting of ERCOT protocols. He then built Dynegy’s third-party asset optimization business including originating the first asset management agreement in the newly deregulated ERCOT (a facility that MP2 serves today). The best job Jeff had at Dynegy was managing four cogeneration plants in California and one in Las Vegas. In addition to a lot of great travel and golf, this experience provided invaluable insight into the aero-derivative and frame-based power plant operations plus hands on experience swapping turbines and optimizing power plants.
Jeff's single most rewarding career experience was the time spent based in Paris and London developing and financing the Terneuzen (The Netherlands) and Indian Queens (UK) Power Projects for Destec Energy.
Jeff holds a BBA in finance and a BBA in accounting from Texas A&M University and was a CPA with Deloitte.

Matthew leverages over 12 years of energy market know-how.
Matthew has experienced a great range of roles, from back-office risk to the front lines of wholesale and retail power sales, and at MP2, he has leveraged that experience to build the business from the ground up. Having led efforts at a merchant generation company, retail energy provider and investment bank-backed energy trading desk, Matthew is a well-rounded force for MP2. Beyond his experience in power and gas markets, he has built a stellar reputation in our industry for hard work and honesty – key for an originator and guiding principles at MP2 Energy.
Early on, Matthew was responsible for several revenue streams at MPower Energy, including structuring and pricing complex load transactions and facilitating Demand Response programs. Prior to MPower, Matt was one of the first in the Calpine Energy Services risk management group for power and natural gas. This experience provided the foundation and deep understanding of the power and natural gas markets Matthew has utilized in his later roles.
Prior to MP2, Matthew led ERCOT marketing and structuring at Credit Suisse, where he marketed innovative long-term structured products bridging the gap between wind project hedges and load in West Texas. Prior to Credit Suisse, Matthew headed Occidental Petroleum's ERCOT origination desk, where he developed commercial strategies and executed some of the first demand side management structures in the United States.
Matthew holds a BBA in finance from Sam Houston State University, an MBA in finance from University of North Texas and has a Series 7 license.
Fun Facts – Matthew (known as "Big Tex" at the office) can grow a white beard, skis in Colorado regularly with his wife and three kids, and hunts and fishes throughout the United States.
Trey's passion within the power business is structuring deals for clients that introduce something new and interesting to the equation – pulling together client flexibility and optionality along with structured retail supply produces deals that result in wins for both the client and MP2. Trey oversees MP2's sales, structuring, pricing and origination efforts on a day-to-day basis. Trey has worked hard to develop a reputation with MP2 clients that we do what we say and follow through when promised.
In a relatively short time, Trey has been exposed to many facets of the wholesale and retail power markets, company and asset sales and divestitures to different business models and approaches, watching firms get built from the ground up, and then doing a lot of the building here at MP2. Trey launched his career at MPower Energy Services as a real-time plant operator, working with Jeff Starcher, Mark Siismets and Matthew Adams, managing and scheduling wholesale generation assets and demand response loads for the QSE, and later managing the retail power sales desk, negotiating and structuring retail transactions. Trey grew with MPower as it was sold to Champion Energy Services, then again later to Lehman Brothers. Throughout those transitions, he was a top business generator and leader in the organization, participating in the development of innovative retail power products and structures.
Trey joined Credit Suisse Energy's ERCOT team in 2008, taking the opportunity to gain a better understanding of wholesale power trading through a large investment bank (and working alongside Matthew Adams). He managed power scheduling, load analysis, weather, transmission and regulatory issues that affected market pricing and function, and later did the cash trading for the ERCOT book. After Credit Suisse, Trey jumped at the opportunity to join four other guys in a room getting back to the retail side of the business and building what has become MP2 Energy.
Trey holds a BBA in finance from the McCombs School of Business at UT Austin and a Series 7 certification.
Trey serves on the MP2 Energy Board of Managers, and volunteers on the Board of the Bayou Land Conservancy, one of the largest land conservation trusts in the State of Texas. Trey holds a BBA in Finance from the McCombs School of Business at UT Austin.
Fun Facts – Trey enjoys mountain biking, snowskiing, waterskiing, just recently learned to surf, fishing, shooting sports, and basically engage any activity outside, which includes standing around a well-tended camp fire. Trey co-founded a motorcycle club at the University of Texas called the "Lone Bikers of the Apocalypse."
Robert is an expert on QSE, generation asset management and Demand Response operations. As a detail-oriented leader, Robert rounds out the MP2 management team, taking on challenges and looking for optimal results.
Robert's unique market-neutral experience has afforded him the opportunity to work with a vast array of market participants, allowing him to understand challenges and develop solutions for generator operators, load serving entities, loads acting as a resource, trading firms and everything in between.
His career in energy commenced at ESO, Inc., where he managed grants from the DOE as the director of housing and energy services. At ESO, Robert led a team of 25 to provide energy efficiency and weatherization services to low-income families in San Jose, CA, and neighboring communities. Later, he moved on to APX, Inc., where he worked within the 24x7 Operations group and the Business Development team.
In APX Operations, Robert provided services (scheduling, dispatch, tagging) for multiple market participants ranging from firms that engage solely in counterparty transactions to firms that represent complex portfolios. He later transitioned to Business Development, where he was responsible for ensuring the timely delivery of operational and technical solutions. In this role, Robert focused on scheduling, settlement and SCADA system implementation. Robert specialized in the registration/qualification of Qualified Scheduling Entities (QSE's), generating units, and LAAR (Load Acting as Resource) facilities with ERCOT. Robert was the point person for APX interactions with key clients such as Credit Suisse, Eagle Energy, Lehman Brothers, Fulcrum Power, BP Wind and MPower, where Robert first met and worked with the crew that would someday become MP2 Energy.
Robert brings a dynamic perspective to MP2 as he understands the needs of wholesale generation asset managers, as well as the technology that supports MP2's efficient power plant, demand response and retail operations.
Robert is a graduate of Morehouse College with a BA in Business Administration and Marketing.

Carey Jordan is a fixture in the ERCOT market. Carey literally started his career in power in 1979 by climbing power poles for Central Power & Light in Corpus Christi and moving up within the organization to become a ISO System Operator and plant dispatcher until 1996. These experiences gave Carey a physical understanding of the grid, of power plant operations, and of transmission and distribution system elements that are truly unique. Couple that with his passion for the economics of the power markets and the constantly changing rules and regulations around that, and Carey's vast experience and background brings insight, contacts and experience to the MP2 team, which are critical to our path forward.
Carey is leading MP2's efforts to develop our Distributed Generation business, overseeing the economics and construction, and identifying new opportunities.
Prior to MP2, Carey was vice president of business development for Shell Energy North America, originating large wholesale power transactions to REPs, large industrial loads, and muni's and coops in ERCOT. Prior to Shell, Carey was head of sales and origination for the Calpine Corporation from 1997-2009. He helped groom and grow Calpine's power offering to 20 U.S. states and Canada via more than 90 power plants.
Fun Facts – Carey owns a wedding facility on the side. If you're looking for an electric wedding day, give him a call.
Brandon most recently was the Founder and President of Joule Partners, a commodity focused hedge fund. Joule was created to provide exceptional investment returns by seeking exposure to the U.S. electricity and natural gas marketplace. Brandon was the former Electricity Trading Head for Sumitomo and Credit Suisse where he excelled in customer focused transactions. In addition to his 10+ years trading on Wall Street, Brandon increased his personal leverage to the power markets by co-founding MP2 Energy, an energy management company with 500M in Revenue. Brandon is considered a pioneer within the power markets, having participated in the legislative rule making process while influencing an ever evolving market design. He has been awarded the “Top 10 Energy Deal of the Year” by Energy Risk Magazine. Brandon believes strongly in people and driving success through values based management. MP2 is based on a belief in people, and the team has a long history of successfully working together.
Brandon earned his B.B.A in Finance from Texas A&M University and received the GTE scholar athlete award where he serves on the Board of Directors for the Mays School of Business Trading and Risk Management Program. Brandon is the founder of the John Cooper School Mentoring Program and he also serves on the International Committee for the Young Presidents Organization where he focuses his time and energy on developing youth programming around the globe. Brandon holds NASD Series 3, 7, and 63 licenses.
Fun Facts – Brandon spends his free time competing in extreme sports, working with youth, and believes the Hill Country of Texas is paradise.
Kevin has a passion for competitive and sustainable energy solutions. With over 16 years of progressive accomplishments in the energy industry he understands how this business works. Kevin has a deep understanding of multi-market operational processes from new market entry to complex settlements.
Prior to joining the MP2 team, Kevin was leading all market development for wholesale and retail power transactions within the PJM territory. His keen leadership allowed for efficiently setting up all of the agreements and operational processes related to customer acquisition, indirect sales and impeccable service. Kevin also learned the wholesale power markets during his time with Calpine Energy Services where he managed complex processes associated with power generation development. While at Calpine he also supervised the retail startup serving the largest industrial customers in Texas as well as the largest direct access customer in California. Kevin started his retail power experience with Enron Energy Services where he managed a national portfolio of bundled energy service contracts.
Kevin attended Louisiana State University and has received a Master of Business from Webster University. He is also a veteran having served in the United States Navy where he was a member of the Naval Security Group.
Fun Facts – Kevin lived in Salamanca, Spain as an exchange student and traveled extensively throughout the region. He is originally from south Louisiana and loves to be on the water fishing, diving or exploring.
Jeff Colvin brings more than a decade of sales experience in the energy industry to MP2, managing teams responsible for millions of dollars in sales revenue.
Jeff leads the employee-directed commercial and industrial (C&I) sales desk and pricing group, managing our aggregator, broker, and consultant Partner relationships to maximize sales, and ensure excellent customer service in MP2’s “brokers as partners” model.
Colvin began his career in the energy industry with EnergyTX in Addison, Texas, where he managed 15 brokers statewide to grasp market share for Retail Electric Providers (REPs) in all deregulated areas of Texas. Roles at Direct Energy Business and Champion Energy Services grew Colvin’s portfolio of direct sales in the energy industry, and in his most recent position, Colvin served as director of U.S. commercial sales for Hudson Energy Services. At Hudson, Colvin implemented a strategic plan that increased engagement with the ABC community resulting in a double-digit year-over-year growth in electricity and natural gas sales.
Jeff is a graduate of Trinity University with a BA in Business Administration.

Russ has over ten years of system operations experience at ERCOT; he is the Lead Operator for MP2's wholesale activities.
Russell has an intimate technical understanding of the ERCOT grid with a focus on operations and reliability. Prior to MP2, he was a senior outage coordinator with ERCOT and the long-term outage group, managing complex transmission and generation projects between the planning, engineering and system operations departments. Russell's studies and analysis of the ERCOT grid provided in-depth knowledge of congestion management, thermal and voltage overloads, and the effects of planned and forced outages. He also spent five years in charge of frequency control, DC tie tagging, and emergency and short supply operations on the ERCOT Real-Time Desk.
Prior to ERCOT, Russell was a system operator for the Lower Colorado River Authority, starting as a generation operator with equal time on the Transmission and Security Desk. Russell is a NERC certified reliability coordinator and an ERCOT certified system operator.
Fun Facts – Russell loves watching football, hitting the golf course and playing guitar. His most recent addition to the family was a Gibson Les Paul.
As MP2's head of trading, Jason leverages a career in trading and risk management to identify opportunities and mitigate market risks and is instrumental in the origination, QSE operations and energy marketing efforts at MP2. From physical delivery to financial evaluation, Jason has extensive knowledge of all aspects of the power delivery process.
Jason brings more than 16 years of energy trading, marketing and investment sales experience to MP2. Prior to MP2, he spent 10 years trading power and natural gas for British Petroleum (BP Energy), Iberdrola Renewables and Direct Energy, and two years with the Dynegy Marketing and Trade Risk Management and Scheduling group. Jason possesses a complete understanding of physical and financial risks within commodity markets.
Prior to working in energy, Jason spent five years with INVESCO and Van Kampen Investments, working as an investment consultant.
Jason holds a BSBA in finance from the University of Arizona and an MBA from the University of St. Thomas Cameron School of Business. He previously held NASD security licenses and is a Chartered Mutual Fund Counselor (CMFC).
As a Vice President of MP2, Tim delivers effective Demand Response solutions for MP2 Clients and is continuing our expansion of this important segment of MP2’s business. Tim brings an impressive 18 years of experience in the energy field, which makes him uniquely qualified to develop a retail supply product with Demand Response. Tim is committed to providing products that focus on the clients’ needs and fundamentally change the way electricity is packaged and consumed while providing an excellent client experience.
Tim continues to serve as the Chairman of the ERCOT Demand Side Working Group, a position he has held for several years. Tim was Vice-Chairman for several years prior to being elected Chairman. His service to ERCOT includes leading the development and implementation of many of the demand response opportunities available to Texas customers today.
Prior to MP2, Tim was with Constellation Energy, where he spent the last seven years developing Constellation’s demand response business, primarily in ERCOT and California.
Tim holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Finance (magna cum laude) from the C.T. Bauer College of Business at the University of Houston and is a Certified Energy Manager with the Association of Energy Engineers.
Fun Facts – When not completely absorbed in the sports of his two young boys, Tim likes to ski, scuba, hunt, and fly fish the most beautiful rivers of North America. He is currently learning to productively fly fish the Texas coast from a kayak
Carlos Zavala has 20 years' experience in client relations, client service and operational excellence dating back to his first golf job in 1993. Carlos left a career as an accomplished golf professional in order to embark on a new challenge with MP2 Energy.
As the manager of golf operations at The Club at Carlton Woods (The Woodlands, TX), Carlos ran the show at the prestigious Nicklaus & Fazio courses from 2001 to 2010. Carlos was key to Carlton Woods being selected in 2002 as the #1 new private club in Texas and ranking #3 in America for its Nicklaus course, and then again in 2006 the #1 new private club in Texas and ranking #3 in America for the Fazio course.
Carlos was recruited by MP2 to learn the retail energy business from the ground up and to lead and implement MP2's ambitious client service goals. MP2 saw in Carlos a guy who would work hard to get to the right answer and make certain that the clients were happy at the end of the day, period. The results speak for themselves as MP2 Energy has been ranked for the second year in a row as the top energy supplier in the United States for overall satisfaction, as selected by ABCs in the annual survey by DNV KEMA.

Prior to joining MP2 in 2009, Doug ran a successful IT consulting firm, serving clients in the Aerospace, Industrial Control, Legal, Real Estate, Transportation/Logistics, and Energy industries. Before that, Doug held long-term positions with firms in Banking, Retail, Healthcare, Semiconductor Manufacturing, and the aforementioned sectors.
Doug's education is in Electrical and Computer Systems Engineering from Montana State University and Arizona State University. During college Doug worked for Wells Fargo developing a comprehensive statistical analysis and forecasting system. Doug was recruited out of college to be the principal systems architect for SonicAir (now UPS Supply Chain Solutions), eventually heading up SonicAir's IT department before moving on to work for Motorola and Medtronic semiconductor facilities doing test engineering. Doug transitioned from semiconductor design testing to aerospace hardware design and automation, working for SpaceHab on NASA's next-generation communication system for the STS orbiter and ISS. From there Doug continued work with his NASA peers, working on robotics and industrial control systems, eventually ending up in the energy sector developing a Demand Response alerting and monitoring system for Legacy Energy. Doug's next step was to join MP2, where he is responsible for all aspects of IT infrastructure and communications.
