HOUSTON (October18, 2016) – MP2 Energy, a full service power company, has signed a five year retail energy agreement to serve Abilene Independent School District (Abilene ISD) approximately 19 million kilowatt hours (kWh) per year. The agreement allows Abilene ISD to secure lower long-term energy prices, which will reduce electricity costs by more than $1 million over the five-year term.
“Our continued commitment to helping customers find the best possible solution is a cornerstone of our business, and we are thrilled to assist Abilene ISD in reducing their energy costs,” said Jeff Starcher, chairman and CEO of MP2 Energy. “This deal structure will help not only the school district, but also its constituents, with budget certainty.”
QuotEnergy Advisors represented Abilene ISD in the selection process, which consisted of evaluating six Tier 1 suppliers and negotiating their services. MP2 was selected because of its ability to negotiate long-term pricing and real time cost reduction for the district.
“Working together with MP2’s executives, we were able to reduce the bid cost by more than $100,000,” said Glencora Ore, vice president of QuotEnergy. “We chose MP2 Energy because of its competitive pricing and ability to commit to a five-year, cost-saving contract.”
As well as the agreed-to energy agreement, MP2 will analyze and evaluate potential demand response and solar energy capabilities in terms of future benefits for Abilene ISD. The addition of these components to the existing agreement have the ability to reduce to energy costs even further.
Abilene ISD is located in central Texas and serves more 17,000 students through two high schools, two magnet schools, four middle schools, 15 elementary schools and various special and alternative campuses.
“This agreement with MP2 Energy and QuotEnergy allows Abilene ISD greater flexibility with our budgets long term by providing us with lower cost of energy over a set period,” said Scott McLean, associate superintendent of operations for Abilene ISD. “This deal will allow us to use the money we save on energy costs in other areas related to the education of our student body.”
MP2 Energy has a long history and extensive experience serving public entities like independent school districts in Texas, including Coppell ISD, Waco ISD, Spring ISD, Copperas Cove ISD and Palestine ISD.
